Environmental Policy
Our policy
This Environmental Policy covers all aspects of Rougemont Chambers operations – including reduction in paper usage, recycling, and responsible investment. The policy also commits us to promoting suppliers and services which adhere to environmentally sound operating practices.
All staff have access to this Environmental Policy. It is reviewed annually by the Head of Chambers and re-communicated to personnel.
Guiding principles:
Reduction of waste
-
- Promotion of paperless environment wherever possible. Documents and emails will not be printed unless necessary
- Annual review of which internal documents and external publications are essential
- Avoid disposable cups and food packaging bought by the office and for events
- All printing and photocopying to be double-sided
Re-use
-
- Second life for items especially paper and office stationery
- Scrap paper used in printers, fax machines, for taking messages and for writing notes or draft copies of documents
- Re-use of envelopes and packaging where possible
Recycling
-
- Paper, card, glass and tin is recycled
- Food waste is composted
- Toner cartridges and inkjets are recycled
- The majority of Rougemont Chambers paper products currently used are recycled products. We are endeavouring to switch all publications and general office papers to 100% post-consumer waste recycled papers. Any additional purchasing costs will be balanced against reduced consumption. When purchasing other items of office equipment, recycled options are always considered.
- Rougemont Chambers seeks to purchase fair-trade and ethically produced goods. Catering for meetings and events is, wherever possible, purchased from local suppliers to reduce food miles.
- Any wood products purchased carry the Forestry Stewardship Council logo.
- All staff have access to a pension scheme that offers ethical investment.
- Rougemont Chambers promotes use of cycling, walking and public transport. For journeys that require the use of a car, car sharing is encouraged. Air travel is taken only when absolutely necessary.
- Rougemont Chambers seeks to minimise the use of energy in its activities. Lights are used only when required. Lights in areas that are not in constant use, such as corridors, are fitted with automatic time-out devices. Bulbs are low-energy, long-life.
- Head of Chambers is committed to the embedding an ethos of continuous improvement within the Chambers with respect to environmental management.
