Exeter Medico-legal Society

Rougemont Chambers are pleased to announce that Dr David Thomas has been invited to become the Chairman of the Exeter Medico-legal Society (EMLS)..

Dr Thomas will be taking over from Dr Adrian Rogers who is a General Practitioner and also an expert witness with extensive experience in medico-legal practice.  EMLS was founded 10 years ago by Dr Christopher Gardner Thorpe (Consultant Neurologist) and Mr Cliff Poole (Partner at Bond Pearce in Exeter).  The Society has grown over the years and seeks to provide a forum for education and discussion between the two professions.

In September 2008 EMLS will be holding its biannual conference on medico-legal matters and further information will be available during the course of the forthcoming year.

Seminar Announcement

Chambers has announced two new, one-day seminars, both to be held at Sandy Park, the new home of Exeter Chiefs. A third seminar is to be held in Chambers.

The first of these on 7th September is “The Anatomy of Child Brain Injury.” presented by Richard Powell and Dr David Thomas; this seminar will focus on understanding the implications of serious non-accidental injury to children for family and criminal lawyers.

In addition the seminar will provide a medico-legal overview of the injuries that occur in such circumstances. This will include an introduction to the anatomy and patho-physiology. This will enable an understanding of how best to instruct or question an expert.

The second seminar will take place on 16th May 2008 and will be our Employment Law Update. Several members of the chambers` employment law team will be speaking on a variety of topical employment law issues. This is a rapidly changing area of law and this seminar promises to be both informative and interactive.

The third seminar will take place on 16th June 2008 and will cover Mediation Advocacy and will be presented by two of chambers Barristers and Mediators Ann Brady and John Lloyd.

All seminars carry CPD accreditation.
